Community Programs
The Manly Warringah Division of General Practice provides psychological services to the local community through a number of group programs which are held on a regular basis. The programs are run by a GP and psychologist team and are provided at a nominal cost of $5 per session to cover administration and refreshment costs.
All programs are held at the Division’s rooms located in the grounds of Mona Vale Hospital.
The following programs are on offer and are detailed below.

Stress Management
Mindfulness is well established as an effective strategy to help cope with overwhelming stress.
During the program participants learn mindfulness skills and techniques and how to incorporate these into their everyday lives. In addition, participants reflect on their values and move towards living a richer and more fulfilling life.
The program is suitable for people having difficulty coping with stress or anxiety and in particular, when stress is impacting significantly on their lives.
This program runs for 6 weeks. Each session is of 2 hours duration.
Programs will be run in August, September and November 2010.

The program is designed for people having difficulty coping with stress or anxiety. Whether it be work pressures, financial pressures or a busy family life, recognising stress and understanding stress triggers is essential. This program explores the causes of stress and provides techniques to deal with them daily.
This program runs for 6 weeks. Each session is of 2 hours duration.

Antenatal and Post Natal Anxiety Help
Perinatal Mental Health Service Directory
This is an eight week evening program for mothers of children under 2 yrs of age who are feeling stressed and at times finding it hard to cope. It allows them to reflect on their journey of motherhood, share experiences and develop new skills and resources. For two of the sessions, partners or a support person are also invited to attend.
Topics covered include adjusting to parenting, improving relationships, and using mindfulness skills to better manage stress, emotions and unhelpful thinking styles.
This program will run on a Monday or Tuesday evening for 8 weeks from 7 to 9pm.

Program will run in August 2010.
This is a mindfulness based group program for women in the second and third trimester of pregnancy aimed at helping them to better manage stress and difficult moods. It is particularly useful for women who have experienced previous anxiety or depression who would like to learn some additional coping skills before the birth of their new baby. The program does include some meditation and yoga. All participants are required to attend a half-hour interview prior to commencing the program.
The program runs on a Wednesday evening from 7 to 9 pm and runs for a 6 weeks.

Carers Help
This program has been designed to help carers and relatives of chronically ill people learn skills to cope better with their situation and to learn how to best take care of themselves. Carers and relatives of those with mental illness, dementia or physical illness are all welcome.
A half hour interview with the GP and psychologist is required prior to commencing the program.
The program is held on a Wednesday morning from 10 to 12 and runs for 6 weeks.

Panic / Anxiety Techniques
This program is designed to help people who experience panic attacks as a result of anxiety It focuses on understanding panic disorders and techniques to help manage them. All participants are required to attend a half hour interview prior to commencing the program.
The program is held on a Wednesday morning from 10 to 12 and runs for 6 weeks.
