1. Youth  Program (GPs in Schools)

Aims

      • Break down barriers to adolescents seeking medical help
• Inform young people about what a GP is and does
• Provide information on a wide range of health related topics

Activities
• GPs trained in communicating with adolescents
• GPs visit Year 11 students in local high schools
• Group presentation to whole class
• Small group discussion sessions with 6 – 10 students per GP

Benefits
• Students aware of topics that they can discuss with a GP
• GPs enjoy interacting with fit, healthy young people
• GPs are paid for their time at the school

 

2. Early Childhood Talks

Aims
• To provide medical information to new parents

Activities
• GPs present to groups of new parents

Benefits
• Confidence of new mothers/parents
• Knowledge of medical services
• Knowledge of medical conditions in babies
• Awareness of current immunisation requirements

3. The Manly Daily and Local Radio

Aims
• Inform the general public of topical medical matters through local press and radio

Activities
• Daily Health articles written by Division GPs published weekly by The Manly Daily and GPs interviewed on local radio
